Last night at approximately 11:30pm I had a brilliant idea. To spend $1,000 in a 24 hour period. Essentially it was the "poor man's" version of the movie Brewster's Millions, in which Richard Pryor had to spend $30 million dollars in 30 days.
My first stop was at the obvious place, the casino. I brought $400 with me, and only played poker. I was up $200 but then I started playing stupid hands, and I got bad beat like mad. I would flop two pair and raise all in, and then someone would catch a flush or something. I can't get too angry about that, since that is the nature of poker. But everyone at the table felt sorry for me. I only played for 4 hours, so taking that into consideration, I spent $100 an hour to play poker.
I got home around 4:30 in the morning and went to bed. I kind of kicked myself for that, since I knew that if I didn't go gambling I could have bought that Martin acoustic guitar for $100 more. Fuck it though, I said. I woke up to the sounds of banging and knocking, because my next door neighbor was having new tiles put in her condo. So I got up and decided to get a haircut for $20. Then I drove to the mall and bought myself a pair of Kenneth Cole slacks because they were on sale for $34.99. I wanted to buy a new pair of shoes, but then I realized that I only wear dress shoes to work, and rarely do anything on weekends.
Then I went to the Sunglasses Hut and bought a pair of Dolce and Gabbana sunglasses for $200. I have a habit of going into clothing stores and telling whoever works there to find whatever looks good on me, and money is no object. It was like the one time I went into the Men's Wearhouse and said that I wanted a new suit, and money is no object, and ended up with a $500 Italian suit that I rarely wear. So first they showed me these wrap around Pradas, but I was like, nah, wrap arounds look funny to me. So then they gave me this one. So now I have a decent pair of day time sunglasses as opposed to those Armani glasses that don't block out the sun.
Then I went to Target and bought some paper towels, toilet paper, and those grab-it duster cloths.

So the grand total:
$400 Casino
$20 Haircut
$37.70 Macy's
$215.45 Sunglasses Hut
$20.66 Target
So only spent $693.81. Didn't quite make it to the $1,000 mark, but I think I'm happy where I am now. Materialism rules.
